Have you ever thought about having a custom coaster created for your business or event? Well, we are showcasing a very unique and, might I say, amazing looking coaster in todays blog post. With this one and only type coaster we were asked if it was possible to do a full color illustration on an antiqued coaster - being that we never turn down a challenge we were ready to give it our best shot on creating something really cool.
These are large and heavy weight coasters - coming in at 4" diameter they are made to last and leave a great impression for the VIP event they were created for. These were to be handed out as special gifts for a large event for not-for-profit health system made up of 22 hospitals, alongside a wide range of clinics and service that employ around 1,4000 staff members. They wanted to treat their staff to an amazing night of fun, and to show them how much each person means to the hospitals. Now, they wanted a majority of the custom coaster to have raised metals, choosing to use our antiquing method to bring out the details of every shape that was a raised metal. When it came down to what finishing coat the coaster should have - from gold, copper, brass or nickel - the hospital decided that an antiqued nickel would fit into the event. Silver was going to be a topic discussed during during the event by a presenter and the hospital selecting this finish knowing that these two would fit well together and create a great dynamic that would wow the crowd.
The most challenging, and most interesting part of the design to this custom coaster was the full color element that the customer desired to implement. The hospital chose to have a full color film roll, clapperboard and ticket with the text “Helping People Live The Healthiest Lives Possible” in a banner around the graphic, also in full color. The solution to this problem? Integrate the full color into the center of the coaster with a raised metal wall that would contain the art. Once put into the coaster the art was covered by a transparent coating called clear epoxy, where it made the graphic pop magnificently against the antiqued nickel. Underneath the coaster is a custom sized EVA surface to make sure that any interactions with furniture or glass that is placed on the coaster will not be scratched or dented.
The last step was the packaging, which is also a very important aspect of the custom coasters. We offer a few different ways to package your items and the hospital chose to have these delivered in black drawstring velvet bags. In my opinion, are very beautiful and gave these coasters a feel of classiness that helped pull everything together for a VIP event for their wonderful staff.
