Happily Ever After: A Wedding Coin Edition

Weddings are an incredibly special time for two people. There coming together in front of friends, family and honored guests to begin a life of happiness together. People will always have gifts to give to the a bride and groom — but what about the thanks that a groom gives to each guest? Love can be shown in all different kinds of ways

These spouses-to-be decided that a Wedding Coin is a perfect Thank You to their guests. When it comes to custom coins our designers know how to handle and create exactly what a client is looking for. There is nothing too extreme or understated. We will try our best to make sure the coin you're giving to your beloved friends and family fits to the T with all your wedding plans and colors. You can see our coins and option here.

Recently we have the pleasure of designing a set of 160 wedding coins for two beautiful people. They celebrated their wedding in July, and we made sure that they had these coins on time and picture perfect. A Wedding Coin can come in many shapes and sized and for these two the decided that hard enamel with color on both sides, with a "sandblast" effect was perfect for them. To get into a little detail about the order — we sent a few coins to show an example of how our coins look once done. The groom decided on ordering 160 coins at a 1.75" size, these are a perfect size coin when you want more detail in the metal and color work because they aren't overly large and the color with gold enamel fit perfectly together. A 1.75" coin is typically 3MM thick, which gives it a little oomph without feeling too heavy. Now, our coins range in size from 1.25" diameter up to 2.25" and it comes down to what you—as a groom-to-be or bride-to-be—choose. We offer the option to see sample sizes of all coins. When it comes to details — we have you covered.

The couple originally were contemplating a full color graphic on their coin. While we have no problem using our screen printing technique to created a full graphic coin — the couple eventually decided to keep things more time-honored with a cross representative to their religious beliefs. They had the idea to stick with a classic "die struck" appearance on both sides of the coin, creating a beautiful and timeless coin. For the finer details we all agreed to have a very nice "sandblast" effect on the front side, with the rings graphic and names, that is a hallmark of a high quality coins when there are raised and recessed elements. Especially when the plating is polished.

With this specific coin it is a polished gold, but our coins can come in copper, brass, bronze and nickel. In the end, they chose to have a hard enamel, which is going to always be level with the most raised metal. The coin uses 1 color and a sandblast effect on the ring and name side, and 3 colors on the back, and the colors are a Pantone match to the photo they sent in. To get a little snippet at the "backroom" of designing — here are a few photos that will show you what designing a coin can look like between our designers and customers.

First, our groom-to-be sent in two photos that he would like to see the coins designed around. As mentioned before, we would have to screen print and put epoxy on the full color graphic, and the groom decided to go with the cross on the back of the coin, with no full graphics. Our art department then sent him a proof of the coin to show the raised and recessed metal of the coin, when the client, in this case our groom, says that he likes the grayscale version of our proof we go ahead and start the process of creating a full color coin proof that will look close to perfection and ends up looking very similar to our final product.

When all is said and done, the proofs are approved we finalize production and get these lovely Wedding Coins to our clients. In the end, the product ultimately up being a beautiful keepsake for the friends and family, who will forever cherish a gift from two people in love. By the way, the items are here on our website.
