Spec or Existing, See and Feel Before You Order in Bulk
We understand how important it is to evaluate a product before placing a large custom order — especially when brand colors, engraving details, or physical dimensions are involved. That’s why we offer an affordable way to order samples of nearly every product we sell.
What Kind of Samples Are They?
Our samples available online on product pages are random actual production pieces from actual jobs—items that were overproduced or set aside for evaluation. While they won't feature your design, they are perfect for reviewing:
- Plating type (e.g., polished vs. antiqued gold)
- Color application (hard or soft enamel)
- Engraving depth or clarity
- Weight and finish
- Functionality (e.g. whistle sound, carabiner fit)
- Fit for physical use (will it work in a mailer or pair well with other items?)
We do our best to match the sample to your preferences. For example, if you're interested in soft enamel on a silver base, just leave a note with your sample request and we’ll choose one that fits.
If you are looking for a blank sample, we can provide that as well.
How to Order a Sample
Samples can be ordered directly from any product page using the “Order a Sample” button. Once selected, customization options are hidden, and you'll be guided through checkout. Sample pricing is kept low to encourage confident buying decisions.
You can also combine a sample request with a Preview and Quote to get a digital proof and pricing alongside the physical item.
Need a Custom-Made Sample (Spec Sample)?
If you need a sample made with your actual design, we offer a "spec sample" option:
- Engraved products: A one-time setup fee applies, which is credited back if you place a full order.
- Custom metal products (cast, struck, or die cut): A mold and setup fee applies, just like a normal order. The mold fee is credited toward a future full order, but the individual spec sample cost is not.
If you’re unsure which type of sample you need, just reach out—we’re happy to walk you through it.
How Long Do Samples Take?
Engraved sample items are usually completed and ready to ship within 2 business days.
Custom items requiring unique tooling (such as molds or dies) take longer—nearly the same lead time as a full order—since the tooling process itself takes the same amount of time. The sampling step from the finished tooling is faster, but you should still expect a timeline that closely mirrors standard production.
Final Notes
Samples are not refundable (and in 20 years, we’ve never had one asked to be returned!).
They are intended to help you make an informed decision with confidence and clarity.
Our goal is always to exceed expectations—starting with the very first piece you hold in your hand.
