Custom Coins FAQs
Product Details
What materials and platings are available?
What materials and platings are available?
Our coins are solid brass — the preferred metal for premium coins because of its weight, durability, and ability to hold crisp detail. (Zinc alloy is only used for rare spinner-style coins, as it’s better suited for moving parts.)
Plating options include antiqued or polished brass, copper, nickel, black nickel, silver, and genuine gold. Dual plating is also available, allowing you to highlight certain design elements with a second contrasting finish.
What sizes and thicknesses are available?
What sizes and thicknesses are available?
We price coins from 1.25" to 2.25" in diameter, with 1.5", 1.75", and 2" being the most popular. Larger or custom sizes can be quoted via a Free Preview & Quote request.
Standard thickness is 3mm, but for coins 2.25" and larger, we recommend 4mm — the added weight and depth create an impressively substantial feel.
What shapes can you make?
What shapes can you make?
Round coins are most common, but we can create virtually any custom shape coin as long as it fits within the size range.
What edge styles can I choose?
What edge styles can I choose?
Choose from classic flat edges, reeded (like traditional currency), rope, diamond-cut, scalloped, petal cut, and spiral edges for added visual interest.
Custom-shaped coins often integrate unique edge treatments directly into the design.
What type of enamel fills are available?
What type of enamel fills are available?
We offer both soft and hard enamel. Both are Pantone®-matched and durable, but they create different looks:
- Soft enamel sits recessed below the raised metal, creating a tactile, dimensional feel.
- Hard enamel is filled level with the surrounding metal for a smooth, polished surface and a cleaner, “finished” look.
The choice is purely aesthetic — it’s personal preference as to which style you prefer.
Can you match my brand colors?
Can you match my brand colors?
Yes, we can Pantone®-match enamel colors for logos or design elements. Metal platings themselves cannot be Pantone-matched, but choosing antiqued or polished platings can help create the right level of contrast for your design.
Customization & Artwork
Are setup fees included in the price?
Are setup fees included in the price?
Standard one-sided engraving has no setup fee. A small setup fee and per‑unit charge apply only if you choose to engrave both sides.
For reorders, there’s no setup fee at all—as long as the artwork stays the same, whether it’s on one side or both.
Can you make 3D coins?
Can you make 3D coins?
Yes. 3D sculpting is available for portraits, landmarks, or other designs requiring depth and relief. Many coins combine 3D and enamel fills for maximum visual impact. 3D coins with colored enamel must use soft enamel.
Can I personalize each coin with different names or numbers?
Can I personalize each coin with different names or numbers?
We can engrave sequential numbering or serialization programmatically, but not individual names or unique custom text on each piece.
If you know you’ll need numbering, we'll recommend a small flat rectangle or pill-shaped area on the coin to make placement clean and consistent.
